Reward Offered for Summit St. Apartment Burglary

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest in an aggravated burglary at a Newark residence. The Newark Police Department reports a suspect tried to break into a Summit St. apartment around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 2. The suspect had gained partial entry when he was met by the apartment resident, and a struggle ensued. The suspect fired a shot with a handgun, but the shot didn't hit the resident. The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect is described is a white male, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 tall, with a “scruffy” beard”, and wearing a black “puffy” jacket with a fur lined hood.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Newark Police Detective Travis Delancey at 740-670-7938, Newark Police at 740-670-7201, or the Licking County Crime Stoppers at 740-349-6888 or 1-888-488-9058. A special coding system on the Crime Stoppers hotline protects the identity of the caller but allows for the reward to be issued at a later time.

Crime Stoppers also takes calls from persons with information about any felony. Information leading to the arrest and indictment of a felony suspect could qualify the caller for a reward as determined by the Crime Stoppers’ Board. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization. Reward money comes from private individuals, businesses, and foundations that see Crime Stoppers as an integral tool in the community’s fight against crime. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to: Licking County Crime Stoppers, Inc., P.O. Box 304, Newark, OH 43058-0304.
