Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest in a business break-in and theft in Newark. The Newark Division of Police reports on or about Jan. 22-23, someone broke into the Law Office of Vicky Christiansen, located at 172 Hudson Ave. The suspect(s) stole several items from the office building, to include two laptop computers.  Law enforcement is currently analyzing physical evidence recovered from the scene, to include video surveillance.

Up to $1,000 Reward for Theft from Heath Store

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest in a theft from a Heath store. The Heath Police Department reports around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 17, a man and woman stole sweatshirts off a sidewalk display at Dollar General at 639 S. 30^th Street. The suspects fled in a tan Toyota truck. The suspects’ pictures were taken by a store surveillance camera. The male suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, red sweatpants, and a white hat. The female suspect was wearing a red sweater with a white surgical mask hanging loosely around her neck.

The Newark Division of Police reports between Dec. 26-28, someone broke into a home in the 1000 block of Shaw Dr., and stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry.

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest in a credit card theft in Heath. The Heath Police Department reports overnight on Nov. 23, a credit card was stolen out of a purse that was in a car parked in front of a house in the 600 block of Creekview Dr. The suspect then used the credit card to make four purchases for a total of $185.20 at three Newark area Duke and Duchess gas stations located on Union St., E. Main St., and Dayton Rd.

A picture of the suspect was taken by a surveillance camera at the E. Main St. Duke. The male suspect was wearing glasses, a gray hooded sweatshirt, toboggan, jeans, and white and black tennis shoes. The suspect arrived and left the store in a white truck that appeared to be a 90’s model Nissan Hardbody truck with a black toolbox in the back and the tailgate is either down or missing.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office reports between Nov. 16-26, someone broke into a home in the 9400 block of Mulberry Rd., and stole a large amount of cash from the home.

The Newark Division of Police reports during the week of Dec. 20, more than once, someone entered Newark Electric at 100 N. 11^th St. afterhours and stole cash from the cash drawer.

Crime Stoppers Success in 2010

Since its inception in 1994, the Licking County Crime Stoppers’ has helped keep criminals off the streets. Since 2000, the Licking County Crime Stoppers has paid out $25,150 in rewards to individuals who have tipped police with information in 51 reward payouts involving unsolved crimes and the whereabouts of Crime Stoppers Most Wanted suspects.

In 2010 alone, Crime Stoppers has paid out $5,750 on tips that helped solve crimes including bank robberies at PNC in Heath and Park National Bank at Dugway in Newark, break-ins around Licking County, a counterfeit money ring, and other crimes.  

Some of the more significant crimes that Crime Stoppers has paid rewards for include:

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police in the conviction of Iradell “Ike” Crumpton in the 2005 triple homicide of Misty Butts, John Boyce, and James Nelms at a home at 416 E. Main St. in Newark.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police solve a 2010 PNC bank robbery in Heath.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police solve a 2010 Park National Bank robbery in Newark.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police find the gun used in the 2007 murder of Raymond Dickerson on Mt. Vernon Rd. in Newark that helped in the conviction of Megan Arensberg and Ashley Baker.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police in the conviction of two men in the 1999 murder of Sammy Stallworth on Mill St. in Newark.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip helped police in the conviction of Jerry Linkous on multiple Breaking and Entering charges and the Aggravated Robbery of Subway restaurant on S. 30^th St. in Newark.

·        A Crime Stoppers tip from a Newark High School student helped police in the conviction of another Newark High School student charged with calling in a bomb threat to Newark High School. 

Newark Police Detective Steve Vanoy, who serves as a liaison between Licking County Crime Stoppers and the Newark Police Department, said, “Crime Stoppers has been an invaluable tool to Licking County law enforcement. Crime Stoppers is a prime example of how citizens and police can work together to fight crime. We encourage people to call police if they have information that we should be aware of.”

In Sept 2006, Licking County Crime Stoppers created the local Most Wanted program which has an 83% success rate, with law enforcement agencies making 15 arrests out of 18 Crime Stoppers press releases asking the public to notify police of the whereabouts of certain suspects. At least six of the 15 arrests resulted in a tip made to Crime Stoppers which pays monetary rewards for tips that lead to the apprehension of Most Wanted suspects.
